McCain: Bremerton, I Love that Place

Ed Wolfe, a delegate at the GOP convention in St. Paul, Minn., was at a meeting of delegates this morning (Wednesday) when he excused himself to, shall we say, freshen up.

Upon arriving at the restroom, however, there were lots of Secret Service agents, who kindly suggested he return to his table for a while.

Wolfe said he knew what was up, so he found a position in the room, expecting to see the party’s nominee. Shortly after, John McCain walked in with his wife and was making his way through a group. Wolfe said he told the nominee, “Senator McCain, Ed Wolfe from Bremerton.”

Wolfe said McCain stopped walking immediately and said, “Bremerton, I love that place.” Then he put his hand over his heart.

Some may recall that Bremerton was the highlight of McCain’s 2000 campaign.

Wolfe said security and police presence is even more intense Wednesday than it was Tuesday. As he was calling me he was walking from a conference center to his hotel. His route took him right into a Code Pink protest. He held up the phone so I could hear them. They were singing some lyrics to the tune of “Row, Row, Row Your Boat,” but I couldn’t distinguish the words.

I, too, spoke with John McCain while on the east coast and he expressed great memories regarding his Bremerton visit.

I was on the boardwalk the night that John McCain came to town and I shook his hand. My dad (a shipyard retiree) would not let go of his hand and ask him a question about how he would treat retirees. John McCain stopped and answered his question and related how his dad had spent time in Bremerton. He could have easily ignored my dad, but did not.

  4. Rich Says:

Not sure about retirees, but here’s how he votes on Veterans issues-
