VP — Who Ya Think?

August 22nd, 2008 by Steven Gardner

Give me your top five picks for veep. Ten points if your number 1 gets the pick, six points for number 2, four points for 3, three points for 4 and two points for 5. One point if it’s in your list of five wild cards. Here’s my list.

1. Biden 2. Chet Edwards 3. Kaine 4. Clinton 5. Sebelius Wild cards: Hagel, Wesley Clark, Richardson, Dodd, Sam Nunn

1. Palin 1. Romney 2. Ridge 3. Pawlenty 4. Crist 5. Lieberman Wild cards: Petraeus, Jindal, Huckabee, Gordon Smith, Fred Thompson

I approved a comment posted by James M. Olsen, then recognized that it was a complete copy and paste job off Drudge. No do that! Bottom line: A company in KC is printing Obama-Bayh bumper stickers.

If this means, JMO, that Bayh is your number one pick, so noted. — Steven Gardner

  2. Steven Gardner Says:

So, JMO, your pick for Obama is Bayh based on the bumper sticker story?

  3. Steven Gardner Says:

I didn’t even include Bayh as a wild card, though it was an accident. I get zero if Bayh is the pick.

  4. Mike Says:

Good list of credible candidates, Steven.

If I had to bet, I’d go with Congressman Chet Edwards or Governor Sebelius for the DEMs. Edwards is a southern fiscal conservative with outstanding national security credentials. Sebelius would put a traditional GOP state (Kansas) in play. My wild card: Senator Clare McCaskill of Missouri.

I’ll go with Governor Tim Pawlenty or Tom Ridge for the GOP, who would put traditional Democratic Minnesota and Pennsylvania in play. My wild card: Senator Elizabeth Dole (depite the fact that she is runnign for re-election).

  5. Mike Says:

Although I believe in selecting (hiring) the best qualified person for the position without regard to gender, I am hopeful one or both parties will pick a qualified female for VP. The time has come.

  6. Sharon O'Hara Says:

    I’ll play… Obama
    1- 5) Clinton

    McCain
    1-5) Rice

There may well be other qualified women but Clinton (D) and Rice (R) are my picks for vp.
I think both could fill the shoes of President should the unthinkable happen.

  7. NIkky Says:

I’m amused someone fell for the Drudge story. Anyone with a sense of politics would know they are printing bumper stickers of all the likely candidates in order to keep it a secret until the campaign deems it proper to announce.

But then… drudge followers aren’t usually the brightest bunch.

  8. Linda Gabriel Says:

    Obama: 1. Biden 2. General Clark 3. Richardson 4. Hagel 5. Sebelius

    McCain: 1. Romney 2. Huckabee 3. Ridge 4. Rice 5. Lieberman

  9. Mike Says:

ABC has reported this evening the dispatch of secret service detail to Senator Joe Biden’s residence in New Jersey.

Obama’s selection of a male, combined with his failure to fulfill his pledge to fully vet Senator Hillary Clinton — Obama said Clinton “would be on anybody’s short list,” yet Clinton was not requested to submit documents to Obama’s search team — may create a major opportunity for John McCain.

Obama just narrowly leads McCain among female voters. Past Democratic candidates led by double-digits. If McCain selects Elizabeth Dole, Kay Bailey Hutchison, or another female as his VP, we’ll have a serious horse race.

  10. Mike Says:

Correction… I believe Biden is from Delaware, not New Jersey. My bad.

  11. Mike Says:

My prediction has come to pass… McCain is set to pick Alaska Governor Sarah Palin this morning.
