Hiring Freeze — Updated

This morning I checked the county the county commissioners’ agenda for tonight’s meeting and there was an item regarding a possible hiring freeze. I wrote about this possibility before a little bit here and a lot here.

Well, it’s not on the agenda anymore. I don’t yet know why. County Administrator Nancy Buonanno Grennan explained that commissioner Steve Bauer said the item probably should be discussed when all three commissioners are present. Josh Brown was not in town Monday. She said the issue will be on the July 28 agenda.

It’s up for discussion because the county is facing a $2 million budget shortfall by the end of the year. Not hiring people would solve at least some of the problem. The commissioners would be charged with approving a plan for exceptions, though, which was part of what was to be discussed tonight.

Would the $328,000 dog fence spent for the off-lead dog park in PO?SK have come in handy? What other waste of taxpayer funds don’t we know about?

We’re told about the shortfalls, why not the expenditures before they’re made?

  2. The state better follow suit quickly . In the PI over the weekend , the Headline said state spending is up 8 billion dollars since Gregoire got in . I only subscribe to the SUN and did not get to read the whole story . Maybe inteeresting for you to investigate Steve as far as what local reps think , raise taxes , freeze , cut ?

With Wall Street gong down like a brick , and job lost starting to register , well state funding, especially in this sales tax state , is going to take a big hit .
