President Obama delivers the real Easter Message

The President stated the following at the White House third annual Easter Prayer Breakfast . The words addressed us personally and to a God who sees us in that light . American Theology has always been diverse and divided, now we are morally divided also . But with the Easter Message   promise of redemption and resurrection, there is always hope for restoration.

President’s comments……

“But in a few short days, all of us will experience the wonder of Easter morning. And we will know, in the words of the Apostle Paul, “Christ Jesus…and Him crucified.”

It’s an opportunity for us to reflect on the triumph of the resurrection, and to give thanks for the all-important gift of grace. And for me, and I’m sure for some of you, it’s also a chance to remember the tremendous sacrifice that led up to that day, and all that Christ endured — not just as a Son of God, but as a human being.

For like us, Jesus knew doubt. Like us, Jesus knew fear. In the garden of Gethsemane, with attackers closing in around him, Jesus told His disciples, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death.” He fell to his knees, pleading with His Father, saying, “If it is possible, may this cup be taken from me.” And yet, in the end, He confronted His fear with words of humble surrender, saying, “If it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.”

So it is only because Jesus conquered His own anguish, conquered His fear, that we’re able to celebrate the resurrection. It’s only because He endured unimaginable pain that wracked His body and bore the sins of the world that He burdened — that burdened His soul that we are able to proclaim, “He is Risen!”

And the President concluded:

We are here today to celebrate that glorious overcoming, the sacrifice of a risen savior who died so that we might live. And I hope that our time together this morning will strengthen us individually, as believers, and as a nation.”

Jesus , Foregiveness and Christmas

Jesus and the message of Christmas …  Forgiveness
We can get caught up in the gifts , the hype , the festivities and parties . The time of the year people seem to be more open with each other , as if there is a spirit of kindness and love glowing from so many of us . We reach out to help those in need , even those who have no religious beliefs get caught up in the helping and giving .  Those who have hard lives or lives turned badly often have the hardest time of the year also , it is season like no other .
What is Christmas really about ?  The Bible and the recorded words of Jesus  speak more about Forgiveness then any other issue .  But today  with  Christmas we sometimes seem  to be more concerned about setting those people straight who are  objecting to it then celebrating it seems at times. Un forgiveness is the one that hurts us and our relationships the most . It controls our responses. If you allow un forgiveness in your heart , even when you know it is hurting you it will hard to let it go .
The parable about the unmercible Jesus shares about the servant  that was forgiven his financial debt but then did not forgive the debts of others.  His master finds out of his un forgiveness and throws him into jail.   The Gospel shares when Peter asked Jesus how many times he should forgive , seven times Peter suggested .Jesus said no , seventy seven times . The Bible says in Romans 12’7 ” Pay no evil with evil “, in fact in Peter 1 3’9 it says  when people insult you , we are to pay them back with a blessing . Not the kind of stuff that comes easy to our  natures , for some of us it is impossible unless God is allowed room in our lives to listen to , worship and obey . But unless we do so , we fight our battles ourselves and are leaving God out of the situation and big part of our lives.  . he Lord takes control , but He will not unless we ask Him to. For us to live the life the Lord directed us to ,, we have to willing to allow God to be the leader in our lives .
Sin seems to be the most preached about topic in the modern church , at least in many churches and political conversations .  Jesus taught more about forgiveness then any other sin.  For when we do not forgive , we are not acknowledging  His gift of being Born into this world , accepting all our sins , all our faults , all our excuses and/or confessions , He took them all and forgave us all .  Jesus  spoke about forgiveness and even on the cross asked for ours .  Merry Christmas , Loving God allows us to Love all of us .
But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Matthew 6:15
Some scriptures celebrating Forgiveness and urging us to forgive others.

Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing.

Psalm 1:1-6

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;

1 John 4:11

Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

1 Timothy 4:12

Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.

For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.

Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,

Luke 6:38

Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”

Psalm 119:1-176

Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord! Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart, who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways! You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently. Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes!

The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.

See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone.

Mark 4:1-41

Again he began to teach beside the sea. And a very large crowd gathered about him, so that he got into a boat and sat in it on the sea, and the whole crowd was beside the sea on the land. And he was teaching them many things in parables, and in his teaching he said to them: “Listen! A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it. Other seed fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil, and immediately it sprang up, since it had no depth of soil.

Ezekiel 1:1-28

In the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, on the fifth day of the month, as I was among the exiles by the Chebar canal, the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God. On the fifth day of the month (it was the fifth year of the exile of King Jehoiachin), the word of the Lord came to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the Chebar canal, and the hand of the Lord was upon him there. As I looked, behold, a stormy wind came out of the north, and a great cloud, with brightness around it, and fire flashing forth continually, and in the midst of the fire, as it were gleaming metal. And from the midst of it came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance: they had a human likeness,

Psalm 2:1-12

Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying, “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying,

Galatians 5:16-21

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions,

Romans 12:18-20

If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.”

Psalm 91:1-16

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day,

President Lincoln’s Thanksgiving Proclamation

“I do, therefore, invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next as a Day of Thanksgiving and Prayer to our beneficent Father, who dwelleth in the heavens.”

President Abraham Lincoln’s Proclamation of Thanksgiving Issued, October 3, 1863

The year that is drawing towards its close has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God.

In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to invite and provoke the aggressions of foreign States, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere, except in the theater of military conflict; while that theater has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union.

The needful diversions of wealth and strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defense have not arrested the plough, the shuttle or the ship. The axe has enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battlefield; and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom.

No human counsel hath devised, nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy.

It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and voice by the whole American people; I do, therefore, invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next as a Day of Thanksgiving and Prayer to our beneficent Father, who dwelleth in the heavens. And I recommend to them that, while offering up the ascriptions justly due to him that, for such singular deliverances and blessings; they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it, as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes, to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquility, and union.

In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed.

Done at the city of Washington this third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the independence of the United States the eighty-eighth.

Abraham Lincoln

History of Veterans Day

The History of Veterans Day

The History of Veterans Day
November 11, or what has come to be known as Veterans Day, was originally set as a U.S. legal holiday to honor Armistice Day – the end of World War I, which officially took place on November 11, 1918. In legislature that was passed in 1938, November 11 was “dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be hereafter celebrated and known as ‘Armistice Day.’ As such, this new legal holiday honored World War I veterans.

In 1954, after having been through both World War II and the Korean War, the 83rd U.S. Congress, at the urging of the veterans service organizations, amended the Act of 1938 by striking out the word “Armistice” and inserting the word “Veterans.” With the approval of this legislation on June 1, 1954, November 11 became a day to honor American veterans of all wars.

In 1968, the Uniforms Holiday Bill ensured three-day weekends for Federal employees by celebrating four national holidays on Mondays: Washington’s Birthday, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Columbus Day. Under this bill, Veterans Day was moved to the last Monday of October. Many states did not agree with this decision and continued to celebrate the holiday on its original date. The first Veterans Day under the new law was observed with much confusion on October 25, 1971.

Finally on September 20, 1975, President Gerald R. Ford signed a law which returned the annual observance of Veterans Day to its original date of November 11, beginning in 1978. Since then, the Veterans Day holiday has been observed on November 11.

Celebrating Veterans Day

United States Senate Resolution 143, which was passed on August 4, 2001, designated the week of November 11 through November 17, 2001, as “National Veterans Awareness Week.” The resolution calls for educational efforts directed at elementary and secondary school students concerning the contributions and sacrifices of veterans.

Three Sure Ways Of Stopping Poverty

Politics often divides instead of unites . Religion also . But when we shared common beliefs and morality we did appear to have some advantages in stopping the ever increasing chaotic home situations and resulting poverty in so many of  our  homes today. .
There have been quite a few good studies on poverty and links that provide consistent chosen life styles that will work against living or children being brought up in poverty . Many share these values and never realized the added blessings they have .  The Judeo Christian ethic provides more security for families , it should not be taken for granted .
Or should the beliefs there of be reason to condemn others , indeed it should be reason to give others hope .   The state dependence and answers often leave morality and common sense out of their answers . Like actually penalizing homes where the dad is staying in regards to aid , women are actually taught to depend on the state .
Full Time work reduces poverty ,  Having  at least a HS Education ,  Waiting  till 21 to have a baby and in marriage . No more then two children,
The study shows a reduction of poverty by 71 percent .

Remembering 9/11….Honoring those who serve !

9/11/2013    Never Forget is heard throughout our nation  on the Anniversary  of the attack by Al-Qaida upon American soil .  The attack on our country , without warning , without a coherent reason , 3000 Americans gave their life , many in the line of attempting to save others .  I went to an over pass near Bangor  and Waved an American Flag as cars  went by.   The number of cars that  were honking their horns was quite high , they cared and they remembered .
I thought at first I was doing something special , then it really occurred to me .  So humbling to be part of the experience of such strong positive emotion and honor because of what others have done .  The horns and approval were all because of those brave souls who have put on uniforms , the first  responders, our military men , our Men and Women who put their lives out there so we can live here with freedom and a set of laws that protects those freedoms .
My son John who along with thousands who  went to Iraq and Afghanistan, some never to return , injured , scared for life .  We debate policies and politics , they defend them all regardless . They do not decide the reasons , they are there because of their Faith in the American people and a belief in a Free America  .  9/11  is a day we remember those like my son , those who have passed away  those who are hurting ,  those with family that still live with memories and what could have been .
God Bless America .
Received these two emails from my two oldest brothers . Both lived in the suburbs of DC at the time . My brother Ken worked near the Towers.
My brother John’s brother in law Paul Jurgens was a previously decorated Port Authority officer for his rescue actions of an airline disaster .  He was a first responder . Our family lost contact with him and requests for prayers went out throughout our families. We watched the news and celebrated when the false reports came out about rescues , only to go to sleep that night fearing the worse yet still with some hope .
Paul was never found and is one of many first responders who gave his life that day serving his fellow man .

I work in Arlington, about 2 miles from the pentagon. My workload was such ,this morning, that I decided to leave work about at 8:45 and do my work at home.
While parallel to and within site of the Pentagon . I was listening to the news about NYC and looked at the pentagon and saw the huge fireball. I was able to get out of DC before the closures and the surge of traffic.

Stand Up For Life Demonstration

Stand Up for Life!

On Sunday, October 6, you will have an opportunity to take a public stand for your pro-life convictions.  Life Chain Kitsap brings Christians together to pray for our nation, testify to the value of human life, and awaken our community to the annual loss of over a million lives a year due to the unrestricted practice of abortion in America.
Each church has an assigned location along the intersection of Silverdale Way and Ridgetop Blvd near the Silverdale Mall.  (However, it is not necessary to stand with your church.)  Signs and information will be provided at tables along the sidewalks.  A one-dollar donation is suggested.   The event runs from 2:00 – 3:15 p.m.  If you would like to be a contact person for your church, or if you have any questions, please contact Heidi Lestelle at (360) 297-3957 or visit the Life Chain Kitsap Facebook page.

Leviticus Is Still Relevant Today .

One of the benefits I have seen with growing older has been my increased desire to read.   To me the Bible is a Love Book , a book to help us share time with God , communicate with Him .

Been reading the Bible as a Novel again and just finished Leviticus . These books in the Bible have always been hard for me to understand  . Having read some good books as of late dealing with the OT I have found it is easier and more interesting  . These books reveal the Holiness of God , Christians today come from a different time , and perhaps we even miss out on the Holiness of God because of our permissive culture . I use to wear a suit to church , now its casual clothes. I have even seen kids bring in meals and adults their coffee with them into the sanctuary . I understand that “Mick  maybe your getting too hung up in culture and customs , the real purpose is being with Jesus” .   Yes I get that , but are we only meeting with Jesus on our level ?  and are we taking advantage of His  ultimate sacrifice to do so .  Jesus is God . He is Holy .

Leviticus 10

The Death of Nadab and Abihu

1 Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu took their censers, put fire in them and added incense; and they offered unauthorized fire before the LORD, contrary to his command. 2 So fire came out from the presence of the LORD and consumed them, and they died before the LORD. 3 Moses then said to Aaron, “This is what the LORD spoke of when he said: ” ‘Among those who approach me I will show myself holy; in the sight of all the people I will be honored.’ ” Aaron remained silent. 4 Moses summoned Mishael and Elzaphan, sons of Aaron’s uncle Uzziel, and said to them, “Come here; carry your cousins outside the camp, away from the front of the sanctuary.” 5 So they came and carried them, still in their tunics, outside the camp, as Moses ordered

Pretty harsh stuff to our mindsets . Aaron the brother of Moses was put in charge of the Tabernacle . The Priests had specific methods of sacrificing and following procedures of up keeping the Tabernacle  and worshiping . Aaron already had shown himself unable to being responsible when he built the idol during the time Moses had been on Mt Sinai .  Perhaps his kids had been hurt by his poor example , but for whatever reason they chose to take short cuts and change the procedure for taking care of the Tabernacle that had been ordained by God , the results were disastrous , instant death.

Now back to our world , where our neighbors are not sacrificing their children to gods , where our neighbors are not allowing murder and  the promotion of slavery to our poor and aliens coming here . Where a world exists that leads us away from God  but will not necessarily  get you linked up with some real nasty people and events .  Because of the ultimate Gift , Jesus Christ we are able to have God with us on Earth , His Spirit comforting and speaking to us .

. I feel for  Aaron as a dad , he must have been heart broken . Loosing two sons !  Is God a Moral Monster , or is He a God of Love .  He is a God Of Love who is Holy . That to protect those of us who Know Him and want to Know Him He can Not be something that He is Not .  God Can Not cut  corners on His Holiness, He can not cut corners On our rationalized beliefs that seem right in our own intellectual understanding . God Is God regardless of how we see Him .

Even though we hear so much about the culture of today falling apart , where we seem to not Honor the God of our Heritage  the God of our Fathers and Mothers. . We live under Grace and live in a land where our Freedoms allow us to share that Faith and Grace. Perhaps better to share it knowing how fortunate we are to go in a church with short sleeves and not worry of being subject to what Nadab and Abihu were accountable to also ,  After all , we  came to Christ because He loved us first . These are the times where a world is needing to know and hear that more the ever . We are truly fortunate to be alive today with the Lord at our sides .

Journalism On the Ropes ?

Journalism on the ropes ? Have you ever had a discussion with someone and wondered where they got that view point from on a story ? I would say it is more so then ever , and besides our perceptions and our own built in filters , there I other reasons it appears .

Years of cutbacks to staff working in newsrooms across our country is showing a change in how we receive our news , and with that the quality of our news , local and nationally.

Pew Research Center Project for Excellence said  recent consumers polled  had one third stating they had abandoned a news outlet because it no longer gave the information they wanted in coverage or the amount of coverage in those stories.

Television News employment is down and in the newspaper newsroom employment has decreased by 30 percent. Since hitting a peak in 2000.  Newsweek has gone totally to the Internet , Time is cutting staff .

Coverage of the government on local TV has been cut down by 50 percent in the last 8 years , sports, weather , and traffic now account for 40 percent of the content .  This has caused other people to go elsewhere for their news in record numbers.

42 percent of people under 30 a few years ago said they regularly watched the news , today that number is down to 28 percent .

In the Local daily in our county , The Sun has followed the national trend to go digital , 450 out of 1380 newspapers have gone this way and others considering . Offering a paid digital content to off set the new market to consumers .

The main beef with consumers , 61 percent stated the stories were less complete then that had been .
