winter storm

This could be the wintry scene tomorrow afternoon

**A WINTER STORM WATCH has been issued by the National Weather Service which goes into effect Monday afternoon through Monday evening.**

Ah, well it was only a matter of time, right? I respect the NWS, but I don’t always agree with their forecasts. This is one of those times where I disagree with their report. I’ll paste it here in a moment, but I’ve been watching a few developments this afternoon that is giving me the impression the Kitsap Peninsula may see longer lasting snow than the NWS is advertising:

1. Cold air filtering through the Fraser River Valley is increasing and the temperature is dropping. It takes quite a lot to scour out all the cold air we’ve stored.

2. The precip will be quite heavy, meaning further cooling of the atmosphere. This will allow snow to keep going likely until early Tuesday morning which will make traffic hectic.

3. We will have cold, east winds in our favor, yet again prologing our cold and increasing our precipitation.

Again, those sitting nice and snug next to the Canal will see the most snow (4-10” potentially). Those away from the Canal (Silverdale/Bremerton areas) will likely see accumulating snow, but will probably change to rain quicker and see lesser amounts. Those without much elevation or living next to large areas of water will likely see just a mix of non-accumulating rain/snow. This is a very marginal event, especially with warmer air rushing in behind this system.

Here are my projected snowfall totals:

These are just my thoughts. I’ll be giving updates through the day tomorrow, so we’ll watch how this progresses together. Here’s the NWS’s statement. Be careful out there.

MONDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH MONDAY EVENING...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SEATTLE HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM

EASTERLY FLOW MAY RESULT IN LOCALLY HEAVY SNOW AT TIMES. THE

  • No. The amount of light we get every six months changes whether the clocks do or not, so what's the point? Just give me that extra hour of sleep back and stop messing with the clock! (71%, 79 Votes)
  • Yes. It gives us something to look forward to every 6 months: More sleep starting in November and more outdoor time starting in March (29%, 33 Votes)
