Snow Chances Are Definitely Emerging…

Sound the alarm!
Just kidding…don’t you dare! 
Snow prospects are definitely looking
positive for those wanting the white stuff to get into the
Christmas Spirit. For others, this is the last thing you want to
hear.
First off, Bremerton Airport recorded a low temperature of 15 degrees this morning with a high of just 30! Saying, “It was cold this morning!” was quite the understatement. And temperatures will be frigid again tonight, though not AS frigid as we have a batch of clouds moving south from B.C. that will act as a type of insulator, keeping things from getting too cold. But overnight lows will still be in teens. We may even squeeze out a few flurries with this system. (!)
Tomorrow will be similar to today: mostly sunny with highs in the upper 20s to lower 30s. Overnight lows Tuesday into Wednesday will likely be the coldest of the week in the low to mid teens.
A weak system is starting to show up in the models for Thursday night/Friday, but this looks to affect our friends up north, but we could eke out a few flurries as highs will still be in the mid 30s.
Now I’ll have to watch the next pattern, because this could get tricky: a stronger storm system could bring snow to all areas Friday night and the possibility of an all day snow event Saturday is showing up as well. Again, I must stress “possibility” as weather models can yank this solution away just as fast as it was advertised. I will say, though, snow lovers shouldn’t give up hope yet.
A more normal weather pattern returns later in the weekend through next week with highs bouncing in the lower 40s under mostly cloudy skies.
Not NEARLY as exciting, but I suppose
we can take a break for a little while in preparation for whatever
Mother Nature feels like throwing at us next

Awesome! So what’s with the temperature dip on Monday? Every other model I’ve read has us moderating to the mid fifties by Christmas time. Do you see any interesting weather in the next 16 day?

Hi Fred,
The coldest arctic air in over a decade is sitting over us right now, so models tend to overdo warming scenarios. It takes a lot to kick out cold air around here, and with the Euro/GFS models signaling at a return to modified arctic air along with precipitation, we could be looking at much colder highs than expected. A brief, but cold, front will also move through on Monday, yet again delaying our warming trend.
Finally by mid week next week we should be back to normal! But I don’t see any temperatures as warm as in the mid 50s by Christmas…yet

Same scenario every winter. We go through a cold snap and then the warm up comes BUT the precip always comes before the warming and we wind up with snow and then it stays colder than predicted and we have to fight that snow for awhile before the true warm up comes to melt it away. Different year, same song. Let all sing now, “I’m dreaming of a white Christmas…”
