If you’re looking for ways to buy fresh local meat, the livestock auction at the fair is more than just cute kids showing off their animals. You can bid on animals (steer, lambs, goats, hogs) raised by Kitsap 4-H & FFA and pay to have them processed.
The auction starts at 11 a.m. Aug. 29 and is handled by Stokes Auction. Their website has more information about the cost of processing, market values, etc.
The Buy Local Food in Kitsap blog has more on it, including more information on a couple of the young farmers, including these images of last year’s auction:
What! No lobster wranglers? Just kidding.
