I believe I just played out an act in the Theater of the Absurd.

My wife’s car has to go into the shop, so she was planning to drive to work today in the 1993 Toyota that our son uses when he’s not at UW. She carried her teacher things out to the Toyota, started it up and then tried to drive off, but she couldn’t. Something was stuck under the car. She got out. Looked. And found a black bowling ball wedged under the rear axle.

After she drove off in my car, I went out to take a look. Sure enough … a bowling ball. We’re at least a mile and uphill from All-Star Lanes, so I doubt the ball rolled out of the alley, up the Ridgetop and then came to settle under our car. Seems like an odd thing for someone to be carrying around the neighborhood, and it would seem if someone intended to have it, they would have come to us for our help in getting it back out from under our car. And I find it hard to believe that the latest teen prank is to wedge a bowling ball under someone’s car axle.

Luckily, a minute spent with the jack lifting the back end of the car was all it took to dislodge the item.

Now, anyone know where I can recycle a bowling ball?

Hope you were able to catch the beautiful sunrise this morning over Silverdale. After days of snow and rain, this one is welcome.

It’s notable that the re-creation of the wetland area just north of All Star Lanes in Silverdale seems to have fulfilled the goal of easing the flooding danger in that part of the community.

There are times in the past when rains like we experienced in the last couple of days would have resulted in flooding of the bowling alley parking lot and the businesses at that end of Silverdale Way. But the wetlands restoration seems to be doing it’s part to harbor water that otherwise would have flooded that that area.

It's relatively easy to find Silverdale and Central Kitsap on a map. What's harder is to identify things that help residents form a common bond. Silverdale resident Jeff Brody is writing this blog to help build community in Silverdale and Central Kitsap.
