A former school board member whose judgment I respect once told me that he measured how well his school board was doing in part by whether it stayed off the front page of the Kitsap Sun. When the board is making news, he suggested, the school district isn’t focused on the really important thing — finding the best way to educate the students in its schools.
So it is with some interest that you should be watching the situation in the Bremerton School District, even if you are a resident of Central Kitsap. Recent actions of the Bremerton School Board have been on the front page, and if comments on the stories are any indication, the board’s constituents are starting to question the board’s motives and whether decisions are being made with the students’ interests front and center.
As one reader commenting on the Kitsap Sun story today noted, “Going to be tough to pass a levy in Bremerton if the people have no faith in the school board or its superintendent.”
