Rene Morris, a senior property manager for Kitsap Mall, was kind enough to respond to my questions about vacancies at the mall.
She points out that several vacancies are the result of bankruptcy actions by national or regional chains that had stores in Kitsap Mall, including Lumity Med Spa, Whitehall Jewelers and Kits Camera, and other vacancies were caused when leases expired and existing businesses did not choose to renew. Examples of those were Sprint, Fraiche Cup/Sun Prairie and Taco Time.
Morris also points out that the Mall just got a new tenant in Hollister, which opened in November, and had American Eagle and T Mobile expand their stores in 2008. In addition, JC Penney is scheduled to begin a multi-million dollar remodel of their store this week.
“This is an interesting and exciting time for us at Kitsap Mall,” Morris said. “Some of our existing retailers will be shifted to new spaces throughout the mall to make room for new retailers. There is much activity behind the scenes.”
Morris said there is a new tenant coming in April to fill the food-court space formerly occupied by Taco Time, with an announcement of that tenant coming. She also said she hopes to be able to make announcements soon on new retailers that will be coming to the mall.
