Congratulations to incumbent Central Kitsap School Board member Eric Greene and to challenger Richard Romero as the top two candidates in the Central Kitsap School Board District 5 race.

Both candidates move on to the general election in November, while Jim Zimny was eliminated in the primary last night.

Greene received 2,525 votes in the initial tally performed by the county auditor’s ofice, Romero 1,565. Zimny trailed with 941.

There were a relatively large number of write-in votes, 204, in the contest. Wonder whether a single individual got a large number of those. Just for comparison, with about the same number of total votes cast, there were only 64 write-ins in the race for Bremerton Port Commissioner.

I am not a CK voter, but I follow education issues for the entire county pretty closely. Congratulations to Mr. Greene. I have been very impressed with what I have seen and heard about him to date.

  2. Registered Voter Says:

If what my spouse experienced the last two days with the school district is any indication, CK will certainly need the help.

  3. Eric Greene Says:

Colleen, Thank you for the kind words. Like you I follow education issues throughout the county. I appreciate the intensity with which you and your fellow bloggers approach the issues we face today in education. As a member of the school board, I am committed to ensuring that all available resources are used to provide teachers with the tools they need to ensure CKSD students receive the best possible education.

Whis is why the next part of your post should have read “And I hope to be of assistance to you and your spouse, Registered Voter”.

  5. Eric Greene Says:

Registered Voter, contact information for each School Board Director can be found on the District website. The link to the School Board is http://www.cksd.wednet.edu/SchBoard/SchoolBoard.htm. All board members are available to discuss concerns our constituents have with CKSD and to help guide them through the resolution process.

    RV,

Central Kitsap has just put the call out for volunteers for their Citizens Finance Committee. If there is any possible way you could serve on that I would really recommend it. What I gained from serving on the one for Bremerton was not just financial knowledge, but some excellent relationships with several administrators and educators that have really helped in the placement and joint decisions made for my own son’s education.

I am pretty sure they have not had many opportunities to utilize someone of your background and caliber. They could really benefit from your unique perspective. Give it some thought. The article with the meeting details are in today’s paper.

  7. Registered Voter Says:

Eric – Thanks, but my point was not the location of contact information regarding CKSD. I am aware of where it resides.

Colleen – Thanks for the recommendation, but I suspect you are privy to some of my civic commitments, which include education and all Kitsap districts. There isn’t time for one more board or committee position in my schedule at the moment, but I will indeed give it some thought. Still working on that other matter and will let you know how it panned out, but the short answer is we’ve since opted for private school.
