There are two meetings scheduled for Wednesday night in Silverdale. Luckily, they are not at the same time, so people can attend both – if they have the time, or the desire.
The first meeting is a study session for the Central Kitsap School
Board scheduled from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Jenne-Wright
Administrative Center. With the recent vote to close Seabeck and
Tracyton Elementary Schools, the board is now in the process of
reviewing and determining how the boundary lines for the district’s
12 other elementary schools will be affected.
The meeting is the first time the board will hear from a committee that was formed last year to review the possibility of school closure. That committee created the criteria used to rank the schools. Since its closure recommendation, the committee switched gears and began reviewing how the district could alter its boundary lines with as little of an impact on students.
While the district has said it will do its best to make the transition for all students as easy as possible, almost every school will be impacted by the boundary changes. Wednesday’s meeting will give school board members a chance to hear what’s been done over the last three months and a chance for parents to learn what the district plans to do. Public comment will not be heard during the study session, however there are two meetings, March 1 and March 5, scheduled for parents to comment on the proposed changes.
The SECOND meeting of the night is being held by the Central Kitsap Community Council at the Silverdale Community Center from 7 to 9 p.m.
CKCC members are strongly encouraging everyone in the community – families, seniors, etc. – to attend the meeting. During the meeting architects from the Rice Fergus Miller Architecture firm will unveil the design plans they created for the area’s proposed Community Campus. Included in the drawings are plans for a 30,000 to 35,000 square foot Silverdale branch of the Kitsap Regional Library. Above the library will be senior housing.
The only way for the architects and county to be able to build a community hub that the community will use is for area residents to come out and offer their thoughts on the plans. Everyone is encouraged to attend, and bring ideas for what they hope to see in the heart of Silverdale.

What a perfect place for a Community Campus!
Located only minutes off the freeway will be helpful for seniors unwilling to spend an hour waddling through traffic … and will not add to the current traffic mess.

Sorry Sharon, most of the senior housing is on the far side of Silverdale Way and Bucklin Hill. These streets are nearly impossible for a pedestrian to cross safely. This is a far from perfect location
