Weekly wine defined: Franken

Mary writes:

Here’s a wine region in Germany located in the upper valley of the Main River.

The region primarily grows Muller-Thurgau followed closely by Sylvanner. Franken wines are rarely found outside of the region and are easily recognized because the best come in those round, flat flagons called Bocksbeutel.

  1. Gerard @ Bainbridge Island Vineyard & Winery pioneered growing Müller-Thurgau locally 35 years ago, and produced both dry/oaked & traditional off-dry. Perennial Vintners produces a dry/un-oaked fruit-forward version. All come from the *same* block of vines!
