Weekly wine defined: Recorking

August 20th, 2012 by brynn grimley

Mary writes:

Recorking is the practice of putting a new cork into an ancient bottle of wine.

For some wines that have been aged for a long time, the cork should be replaced. When this is done the bottle is usually topped up with the same wine, if not from the same vintage than one that is similar.

Some of the top Chateaux will actually set up shop in big cities to recork and evaluate an ancient bottle of wine.
