Weekly wine defined: Scheurebe

June 25th, 2012 by brynn grimley

Mary writes:

Scheurebe is a German grape variety that is a replica of Riesling with the ability to ripen earlier than Riesling, which is always a good thing for grapes grown in the more northern climes.

The grape was named for Dr. Georg Sceu, who was a very prolific vine breeder. Scheurebe (pronounced Shoo ree bee) is a cross between the Sylvaner and Riesling grapes.
