What we’re drinking: Anything Bordeaux

December 21st, 2011 by brynn grimley

Well not actually anything — specifically we’re focusing on the 2009 vintage.

The 2009 vintage of Bordeaux is highly touted. Extraordinary, early maturing and accessible. So it’s our job to to scout it out for you. And we’re pleased to report that now is the time to delve into those baby Bordeaux that are or so affordable.

Even though the 2008 vintage is better balanced and more expensive, the 2009 Bordeaux vintage is a good bet for the Bordeaux in the under $15 price range.

We urge you to try the Chateau du Pin 2009  with its earthy, spicy, silky flavors that will only set you back $10 and has a full-bodied silky finish.

This is a fantastic value from the first 2009 Bordeaux blends of Cabernet, Merlot and Cab Franc. Easy drinking, and a true pleasure.

Hi Brynn; Where did you get the “Chateau du Pin 2009″.
    Thanks
    Tim

I don’t remember the label, but the Toro Lounge in downtown Bremerton carries a Bordeaux as one of their house wines (unheard of, right?) and it is FANTASTIC! Give it a try!

    Hi Tim,

That one was drunk by Mary, so let me check in with her and get back to you, to see where she bought it.

OK Tim, I heard back from Mary — you can find the Chateau du Pin 2009 at Central Market in Poulsbo for $10.

    Hope that helps!

Brynn; Just drove to Poulsbo Central Market and spoke with the “wine guy” he said he doesn’t have it and has not had it. Help!

I did however score a few other Bordeauxs ;)

    Hi Tim,

Sorry I didn’t get back to you on Friday — I was busy getting stories in for the long weekend. I talked with Mary and she’s pretty certain she purchased that Bordeaux at Central Market. So, either the wine guy was wrong, or she is remembering it wrong.

One other suggested place to try is across the street from Central Market along Highway 305, there’s a local wine shop that has a great selection of wines — it’s toward the end of the Albertsons shopping complex, closer to Central Market. The name is Olympic Wine Shop (19740 7th Avene NE; 360-697-9463) and the owner is accommodating and can order wines for you if he doesn’t carry them — so maybe he can snag you a bottle of the Chateau du Pin.
