The Bremerton National Airport has a 6000 foot runway which has not been repaved for the past 20 years but thanks to a 5 million dollar grant from the FAA we are currently in the middle of a major runway paving project that should leave us in great shape for the next 20 years.
The Bremerton National Airport is a facility that has the capacity to handle planes up to the size of a Boeing 737 or an MD 80. Ten years ago Senator McCain landed here in his chartered 737 on a campaign stop. We hope in the not so distant future to increase our jet aircraft traffic in and out of Bremerton National. We are also again contacting airlines about the possibility of them flying service from Bremerton National to other cities in the northwest. Last week we met with managment from Kenmore Airlines and spoke with them about possible service. We even spoke about bringing float plane service to our downtown Bremerton marina. I have no doubt that within the next five years we will have some regular airline servive in and out of Bremerton National to other cities in the northwest.

Float plane service is an intriguing idea. While I understand that these planes can be expensive to operate, I hope the price will be affordable if the service comes to Bremerton.

We’ve been trying to get Kenmore to add Kitsap as one of its regular waterfront service areas to British Columbia and the San Juans for a few years. Silverdale, Bremerton, Port Orchard and Kingston were proposed but they didn’t really bite. Since they offered special charter pick up/drop off that was good enough for us, but if you swing a Bremerton National or Marina presence that would be great. Too bad it won’t be in time to get me to a Spokane conference next month!

If memory serves, the service did exist at one time, because I used it at least once.

    Mr. Bozeman,
I live in Sunnyslope, quite close to Bremerton National. I would support limited commercial airline service, as long as it’s modest in scope and respectful of the concerns of the property owners who have lived here during the time the airport has supported mostly prop planes and races.

Many of the concerns are obvious: noise, declining property values, airborne pollution (my son has asthma), and increased traffic along an already overly dangerous stretch of Hwy 3.

That said, I look forward to the sensible economic development of SKIA. One last thing: as someone who works at OVIP, we would love to see some more dining options around here! The Diner’s great, but even a decent taco truck would be welcome.
    Thank you.
