VIDEO: Inslee unveils first TV ad

Bainbridge resident and gubernatorial candidate Jay Inslee unveiled his first TV ad this week.

The one-minute ad focuses on Inslee’s biography, touches on his time representing both sides of the Cascades in Congress, and mentions his opposition to the Iraq War and the Wall Street bailouts.

Republican candidate Rob McKenna has not aired an ad yet.

Official confirmation Inslee will run for governor

I just got an email from Jay Inslee’s campaign office announcing that the Bainbridge congressman will officially kickoff his run for governor next week.

He’ll make the announcement Monday morning in Seattle. Followup stops are planned for Yakima, Tacoma, Vancouver and Spokane.

Inslee’s campaign website, www.jayinslee.com, went up this evening. Not much there yet. There’s a photo, a campaign sign (see over to the left), an official campaign slogan (“Building a Working Washington”) and a link for making financial contributions.

He’ll be matched against Republican Attorney General Rob McKenna.

Inslee was elected to represent the 1st Congressional District in 1998, shortly after moving to Bainbridge.

“He is the automatic front-runner for the Democrats at this point,” state Democratic Party Chairman Dwight Pelz told the Seattle Times. “He’s very popular with the party and a proven vote-getter on both sides of the mountains.”

Rossi to speak on Bainbridge Island

U.S. Senate candidate Dino Rossi is scheduled to speak at a Republican Party on Bainbridge later this month.

Rossi, who twice ran for governor against Chris Gregoire, will be the featured guest at the Bainbridge Island Republican Women’s Club’s Summer Soiree on July 15. Rossi is currently campaigning for the senate seat held by Patty Murray.

The $30 event begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m. It will be held at the Wing Point Golf and Country Club, 811 Cherry Ave.

Jay Inslee for governor?

There’s been plenty of speculation that Bainbridge’s own Jay Inslee is going to run for governor in 2012.

He’s run before. And he said he’s “interested” last June.

Well, now his former campaign manager has registered two websites that give another strong indication Inslee is serious about leading the state.

As reported by the State Column, Chris McCullough, who worked for four years as Inslee’s campaign mangager and is now a Seattle-area political strategist, registered jayinsleeforgovernor.com and insleeforgovernor.com earlier this month.

Here’s what the State Column had to say about the websites:

“While speculation on a run by the Congressman is nothing new, this is the first sign that Inslee is seriously considering a run for governor. While the state’s current governor, Christine Gregoire, floated the notion of a third term, support for the governor has since waned. Amongst the state party, Congressman Inslee — with his fundraising connections and strong political base—is seen to have the best shot at winning both the primary and general election in 2012.”
