City gearing up to transfer Ft. Ward Parade Grounds to park district

Below is the city’s press release about plans to transfer the Fort Ward Parade Grounds to the Bainbridge park district. The public hearing is later this month.

BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, April 15, 2010 – The City of Bainbridge Island will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, to consider whether to deem the Fort Ward Parade Grounds properties surplus to the needs of the City of Bainbridge Island and authorize their transfer to the Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park & Recreation District.

The Fort Ward Parade Grounds properties include a 2.51 acre parcel, commonly known as the Fort Ward Parade Grounds, (Kitsap County Auditor’s Parcel No. 5451-000-023-0006), two smaller parcels of .06 acres (Kitsap County Auditor’s Parcel No. 5451-000-019-0002) and .08 acres (Kitsap County Auditor’s Parcel No. 5451-000-020-0009) adjacent to the Fort Ward Parade Grounds, and a .04 acre parcel (Kitsap County Auditor’s Parcel No. 5451-000-024-0005) near the Fort Ward Parade Grounds.

It is understood that upon transfer from the City, the Park District would maintain and utilize the Fort Ward Parade Grounds properties as public parks and open space.

The public hearing will be held Wednesday, April 28, 2010, as part of the special/regular City Council meeting, which begins at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall, 280 Madison Ave. North, Bainbridge Island, Washington.
