Two weeks worth of Bainbridge news
September 15th, 2009 by tristan baurickWhat is it about islands? I live on an island, report on an island…so what do I do when I go on vacations? Go hang out on other people’s islands, of course. Last time it was Vancouver Island and Salt Spring Island. This time, we headed up to the San Juan Islands for our typical family getaway activities: bike a lot, eat a lot, read a lot…and visit libraries (Lopez Island’s is a beaut) and read local newspapers (some interesting stuff in the Journal of the San Juans) because we are a librarian and reporter, after all.
So what happened on this island? Here’s two weeks worth of Bainbridge Island news:
-KiDiMu closed down in preparation for its big move to the Island Gateway development.
-A Bainbridge ferry was damaged when it had a “hard landing” (crashed) into the dock in Seattle.
-It’s finally official. Interim police chief Jon Fehlman was named Haney’s replacement.
-A Bainbridge adult day center is scrambling to fill a big budget hole.

Speaking of BI news, the viewership on Youtube of the video, ‘James Olsen 2′, is climbing steadily.
September 21st, 2009 at 8:12 pm
Yes, it is currently at .00075% of the bloated bitv viewership figures provided by schmidt on bnotnews. Koi, the YouBoob is viral.
Search YouTube: BITV crime rebuttal — that is at 2500 vice 200.

Hey Koi, speaking of BI news and BBOOBNEWS and Scott Schmidt’s desperate attempt to suggest his station is honorable in his YouBoob piece, here is a letter to editor send out by the Kitsap Sun on this very BI news subject.
Subject Remains: COBI Can’t Afford Coverage
To the Editor:
Totally amazing how BITV spokesperson Schmidt persists in casting himself and BITV as a victims of “misinformation” about COBI spending priorities (Bainbridge Islander, Aug. 29). Spokesperson Schmidt, my initial point about $256,000 spend on live-broadcast spoke to waste, fraud and abuse of current spending priorities by COBI. COBI is near bankrupt and must implement an austerity budget. This is not about BITV. While BITV predictably self-identifies with COBI, a criticism of COBI is just that.
Clearly BITV spokesperson continues to feel obliged to justify his station’s existence but stop recasting my accurate comments. BITV spokespersons can self-promote their “good value” and “truthful information.” As a matter of fact this defense is self-serving since BITV is the direct beneficiary of this $256,000 no-bid contract.
COBI must tighten their fiscal belt by pulling the plug on airing live/taped Council meetings. This simple step will save hundreds of thousands of dollars. COBI can easily use alternative internet low-cost/free options for serving the taxpayers accessible broadcasts of meetings.
As to Spokesperson Schmidt’s continued attempt to deny the facts on the $256,000 funds, BITV’s very limited BI Council viewership and BITV’s special-interest status with COBI, the Hamlet line is in order: “The lady doth protest too much, methinks.”
And is there a reason non-profit BITV is hawking BITV-produced YouTube hit pieces on me for my criticism of wasteful spending? These facts certainly makes one wonder about BITV.

For anyone who has watched James Olsen’s video, ‘Crime censored rebuttal’, and wonders why his panties are in such a bunch, here is what I said back in October of 2008: “On September 30th, 2008, a resident reported that political signs of a particular tone that he had placed in various well known spots around the Island, had been removed by persons unknown. The sneaky thieves got away with quite a few of the man’s hand-stenciled signs, but have yet to target the two across from Safeway, the one up the street by the church on Sportsman’s Club Road, (on the left hand side, if you are facing South), or the one on New Brooklynn by Woodward School, or the one on Miller on the right hand side of the road just before 305…The investigation continues…”
I have never advocated that others steal his signs,(they need no prompting from me,and the locations are all well known), nor have I ever stolen one of his signs. I am also not responsible for all of those new signs that claim he is ‘Grumpy’ or a ‘Screw-ball’.

Hey Acid Blotter, have a bitv crime-free day. You said what you said for the lousy reasons bnotnews is a sham. Hey, if the Birkenstock fits, eat it. Ever wonder why your gig on bnotnews is so hyped by the blonde? It says a great deal about the “highest journalistic standards” bitv never adhered to.
Your station is pay-to-play at its worst.
Can’t bitv find someone other than Acid Blotter to speak to your station merits? Apparently not.

Koi — down girl, down girl. Stop with the obsessing. Try cold showers !! <:)

Speaking of Bainbridge Island news, check out the just posted YouTube on the $42,000,000.00 BISD #303 bond levy. A local economist dissects the outrageous bond request. While idle chatter about pay-to-play community television is one thing, this matter of onerous taxation is serious business. Check out the YouTube and, of course, VOTE NO.
I wouldn’t be too surprised to see signs saying: YouTube: NO! BI Bloat Bond. The link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jdq5e1Dn424

Oh Mr. Thucididies Olsen, I wish you would stop trying to squash my free-speech rights. I am an American citizen. Idle chatter? Youtube: ‘James Olsen 2′.

Oh, my Koi, you seem to have lost something in translation. Mea Culpa ! The answer to censorship is more free speech.
By all means produce a YouTube, a letter to the editor, a sign, even a lowly post on Baurick’s Conversation.
Give us your answer to our statement in YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jdq5e1Dn424.
Oh, and have a bitv (bboobnews) crime-free day.

I’m sorry Mr. Hemphill, I’m sure you mean well and you appear to be sincere in your beliefs, but your association with the rancorous James Olsen and Shining City Media, which still has unanswered questions about it’s tax-paying status on Bainbridge Island, have negated any chance you may have had to sway my vote.

Hey Concerned Astrologer — put you money where your mouth is. VOTE YES for $42,000.000 bloat bond. Good plan !

I am surprised to see James Olsen switch horses in mid-stream, but we fully welcome his support of the school bond, “..VOTE YES..”. I guess it is true that an old dog can learn a new trick. I don’t know if he plans on replacing all of his ‘no’ signs with “..VOTE YES..” signs, but stranger things have happened. Remember what James Olsen says, “..VOTE YES..”, and it’s a “Good plan.”
