Almost half of the city’s staff, two-thirds of the police, and all but one of the fire department’s medics live off-island. That means a lot of the folks that make the island run and keep it safe will be on the other side of the bridge if it ever falls. With a major earthquake a near certainty, the city spent this morning figuring out how they’ll get all those road workers, engineers, police officers and firefighters shipped over from their homes in Poulsbo, Port Orchard, Silverdale and the rest of the county.
