Locker will Return for Senior Season

Great news for Husky Football fans as Jake Locker announced today that he will be returning for his senior season at the University of Washington.
Here is a quote from Montlake Jake:
“After a great deal of careful thought and deliberation, I have decided to return to Washington and play my senior year,” Locker said in a statement. “I am very excited about this team’s opportunities and potential for the upcoming season and I am looking forward to being a part of it.”
You’ve really got to hand it to him. Despite three consecutive losing seasons and the promise of millions playing in the NFL (ESPN had him as the #1 overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft), Locker will return to lead the Dawgs next year. This man bleeds purple and gold.
My analysis: The extra year will give Jake more time to develop as a pro style quarterback and should definitely boost his credentials. Under the coach which shall not be named, Locker was the entire offense which doesn’t translate well to the pros. Coach Sarkisian, in contrast, is better suiting Locker’s talent toward an NFL style offense, in that he is passing first and scrambling/optioning when the opportunity presents itself.
With this experience, however, comes risk of injury. Texas QB’s Colt McCoy returned for his senior season and suffered two separate shoulder injuries, which could cost him in this year’s draft.
The logical choice is to take the money, but it seems that Jake feels he has something to prove. It’s a gutsy move by Locker, but it shows his commitment to the purple and gold and to its fans. I commend him for that; Husky fans should consider themselves fortunate to have such a comitted leader. Three cheers for Jake!

Hey Chadsy, digging the sports blog. One thing to note, Colt McCoy played all year, no injuries. Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford was the one who went down with shoulder injuries.
